Not only is our beef more tender, juicy, and delicious than the average beef product, it is significantly healthier. In fact, Longdale Farm steaks have 20-35% fewer calories, 20-40% lower fat, and 20-35% lower cholesterol than conventional beef; and 25-30% lower cholesterol than boneless, skinless chicken breast.
In our continuing effort to produce the healthiest beef on the planet, we recently added a combination of vegetables and grains to our feed program to naturally increase the levels of Omega-3 and Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) in our beef. Omega-3 fatty acids are considered essential fatty acids, which means they are essential to human health, but cannot be manufactured by the body. For this reason, Omega-3 must be obtained from food. Omega-3 has been proven to improve heart health and circulation, reduce plaque and heart disease, heart attack. In addition, it is proven to have reduced levels of arthritis and depression, and to decrease levels of memory loss.
Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) has proven to be effective in lowering the risk of cancer in several breast cancer trials, is an effective weight loss tool especially for belly fat, has been shown to reduce cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis in laboratory animals, and is believed to improve brain development in babies along with other benefits. CLA is only produced in the meat and milk of ruminant animals (cows, goats, and sheep). The most successful scientific trials feed either meat or dairy where the CLA is naturally in the food. Adding synthetic mixtures of CLA to a food product appears to be far less effective.
Compared to grass fed beef, Longdale Farm levels of Omega-3 fatty acids are slightly superior, and our levels of CLA far exceed grass fed beef. Longdale Farm beef also has higher levels of MUFA (monounsaturated fatty acids) and lower cholesterol levels than conventionally raised beef. One 8 oz burger exceeds the recommended daily requirement for CLA, and has Omega-3 equal to a 500 mg fish oil pill. Tastes great and healthier for you too!
